Colour exercise

This two day workshop is for people who have had some experience of painting and would like to experiment and explore abstract ideas further in their work.

Colour, Collage and Texture in Abstract Painting follows on from the introduction to abstract painting session. It is a an expressive workshop about releasing creativity by experimenting and learning techniques of mixing media. We will make collage papers, look at techniques with acrylic paint, use wax resist, draw with sticks, splatter and dribble paint. Building on ideas from the first workshop we will look in more depth at using colour, collage and texture to create interest in abstract compositions. Over the two days of this course you will:

  • Make your own papers for collaging
  • Experiment with different techniques including scumbling, splattering, painting with fingers, cloths and sticks.
  • Use pastel, ink and pen

Who is this course for?

  • Beginners new to mixed media
  • People who would like to learn how to loosen up and become more expressive in their painting
  • Anyone who would like to quieten their inner critic.

A full and detailed booklet of all of the exercises and information from the two days are included for each attendee.

As an experienced teacher and artist Lin Cheung is able to create a friendly supportive workshop environment so that people feel relaxed and comfortable and ready to learn.  She is interested in supporting people to discover their creativity whether they are new to art or more experienced.

The Studio

All workshops take place in Lin’s studio in Buxton. This is on the ground floor of her house and provides a light airy space for working and running small workshops. The room will comfortably fit six people.

The studio is equipped with a painting wall which can accommodate two people working standing up, a high counter suitable for working flat and which will also take two people. And finally, a six-foot table for another two people to work sitting down. If you prefer to work at an easel then this can also be provided.

Lunch is provided as part of the day and is catered for by the Green Pavilion cafe who are able to accommodate most dietary requirements.

You can reach Buxton by road or rail, there is an hourly service from Manchester Piccadilly and Lin’s studio is a 10 minute walk from the train station. If you travel by car then there is ample on street parking outside the studio.
