How does Art Coaching Help?
Being an artist requires us to learn a multitude of technical skills in the making of our art. We also need to attend to our inner state to release and free up our creative energy to make the best of art of which we are capable. As a creative coach I am interested in working with people in both these dimensions.
I am interested in helping artists recognise limiting beliefs, self talk and practices and help to them develop more effective ways of working and supportive mindset. I also enjoy working and developing the more practical and technical aspects of art practice to support the creation of vibrant authentic work.
As a practising and exhibiting artist, experienced group leader, teacher and personal development professional I bring a unique set of skills to coaching for creativity. Applying this combination of skill and experience to artistic coaching means I understand the significance of how we think and feel about our work and how that can influence what we create. I am also able to help with practical technical suggestions from my own artmaking.
My YouTube channel has videos with me speaking about how to support your artist mindset. Click here to take a listen.
Chemistry Check
I begin with an online 20-minute free chemistry check., as we need to see if we click. This 20-minute conversation is a chance for you to find out more about me and how I work and for me to see if I think I have the skills to be able to help. You can book a chemistry check through my online scheduling page here.
My Approach to Coaching
We begin by looking at what you want to gain from our sessions, looking at goals, hopes and aspirations. Sometimes it may take some time to be clear on what these are, this is fine and very much part of the process, and you might also discover that during coaching your goals may change.
At each session, I will also check in with you to see what you want to concentrate on. For mindset work, because I am trained in Transactional Analysis, I occasionally might use an idea from this to help understand something that is happening.
I see my role as providing respectful feedback, useful, kind challenge, accountability and support. Ultimately to support and help you in achieving the goals you set for yourself. A few of the areas we might address are listed below.
Mindset work on:
- Ideas about creativity and how to keep your creative energy flowing.
- Finding authenticity
- Significant memories and experiences that are a negative influence.
- Your inner critic
- Your creative support network
Techniques and skills such as:
- Loosening up
How you choose what to work with - How you work with colour
- Abstract work
