Artist Statement
I am an abstract artist and create non-objective abstract art using mixed media i.e. acrylics, collage, textiles and stencils. I work intuitively, embracing asymmetry, spontaneity, and unintentional marks as gestures of authenticity. Through collage, stencil, and pattern, I build quiet complexities: subdued palettes punctuated by flashes of saturation, harmonies found through experimental colour mixing. My compositions are mainly influenced by natural forms and patterns alongside the beauty of architectural formations.

Artist Statement
Originally from Northern Ireland, Cat moved to the North of England in the early nineties. She worked as a senior lecturer in Art and Design before becoming disabled in her mid thirties. Cat enjoys working from her home studio and has exhibited in several national and one international exhibition in the last two years.
Working intuitively with a variety of media, Cat’s evocative mixed media paintings are inspired by the natural world. Exploring the connection between internal and external landscapes and the narratives that unfold, Cat uses oil and cold wax with hand made collage papers embedded into the paintings to create atmospheric original art. Winter’s Breath is a limited series of paintings filled with the quiet beauty of the first frosts as Winter beckons.

My painting is an abstract exploration of coexistence. I am fascinated by the relationship between the spiritual energy of nature and the perceivably unmovable structures of the city. I see the surface I paint on whether canvas or wood panel as a Shared World where these two forces constantly evolve and adapt to changes in their relative spaces.
The process of layering is how I map this dynamic. Beginning with foundational colours to evoke deep roots grounding us in time and space. The Urban world built upon the foundational earth is conveyed through hard lines and organic shapes. Through texture and contrast, I show that natural world is never excluded; its flow simply takes on new forms with the city’s structure.

Artist Statement
Jenny lives mainly in the north Pennines, but partly in north-east Scotland, two very different rural areas.
She took up pottery in her 20s, developing a love of shape, form and texture. On retiring, she decided to join local art classes, which focused on landscapes. Gradually she moved towards abstract and semi-abstract, following online courses. She is inspired by nature and the world around her. She enjoys converting her photos into compositions for abstract art. Her main influences are colour, the seasons, nature, her environment, and her holidays in Menorca. Her current work is increasingly simple (but occasionally exuberant). As well as using acrylics, pastels, inks and charcoal, she has recently ventured into creating simple collages from her gelli prints and re-started ceramics.

The characteristics of the materials I use form the foundations of my practice. I am drawn to their physical qualities and enjoy exploring how those properties move in new directions. My studio is filled with collected objects and fragments, many of which find their way into my work.
My work is informed by the earth and natural processes, including erosion, layering, exposure and concealment, as well as growth, creation and decay. It rewards slow looking, revealing layers, hidden depths and occasional glimpses of brightness beneath the surface. I am interested in creating work that evokes remembered sensations rather than specific places – the quiet wonder of standing before a landscape and sensing its scale, history and atmosphere. I currently work with oil and cold wax, drawn to the depth and subtlety that layering allows.

Milan: A series of nine paintings created in the City of Milan, Italy in the summer of 2024. Three of which are included here – IV, VIII and IX.
Inspired by the rich religious culture, the vibrant street art and the long artistic history of Milan, these images were created in the scorching heat of the city using spray paint, rollers and a hand-crafted stencil.
The history of stencils in art dates to prehistoric times, with hand stencils found in caves over 35,000 years old.
The images evoke both contemplation and curiosity, causing a tension between ‘icon’ and ‘decoration’.
Keemar resides and works in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK.
